Our Federated
Innovation Model
Federated Innovation is a model committed to build our future. Our Innovation Model is a new approach to Intellectual Property based on contamination of ideas, best practice and thinking out of the box. During the search and invention phase (from early stage to industrial application), an open approach, in full respect of IP rights, is our mantra. This will truly make IP rights a reward and a driver for innovation, and not an impediment to free competition.
MIND
The ecosystem core is formed by the Innovation District initiators: the University of Milano Statale, the Galeazzi Research Hospital and the Human Technopole (the Anchors), who came together with Fondazione Triulza and with Lendlease and Arexpo to create the built environment of the former EXPO2015 area in order for it to foster connections among researchers and innovators and between them and both the industrial world and local communities.
MIND
Strategic Committee
The Strategic Committee includes representatives of the key anchor institutions, as well as of public and private stakeholders whose mission is to improve and develop the whole area into a scientific and technology district of global excellence.
Innovation
Alliance
The Innovation Alliance is a selective group of innovative companies who share a common stake in the overall success of the district. The members of the Innovation Alliance are responsible for ensuring that the ecosystem thrives today and in the future, leveraging on the best combination of innovators, experts, intermediaries and projects.
Thematic
Areas
Thematic Area Leaders adopt the role of core innovation drivers and enablers within the Federated Innovation @MIND ecosystem. Their primary mission is to focus and drive vertical innovation within their specific sector and discipline.
Innovation
Initiatives
A mixed group of innovation initiatives ideated within the Federated Innovation @MIND ecosystem and proposed through a bottom-up or top-down approach by one or more of the Federated Innovation @MIND members and/or one or more District players (“Innovation initiatives Leaders”).
Ecosystem
Support Layer
The Ecosystem Support plays a facilitator and catalyst role by supporting the different Innovation Layers of FI in their interactions and in interacting with external players. It acts as a cultural mediator between the diverse set of stakeholders, building innovation plans, executing Initiatives,facilitating communication and supporting in the definition of innovation agendas. The Ecosystem Support coordinates debate and decision-making processes and services offering. It consists of several functions: Technical and Legal Secretariat, Catalyst and Ambassadors.

Community
Companies of different sizes and at different stages of maturity, operating in a variety of sectors and which are interested in being part of the Federated Innovation @MIND ecosystem either to directly engage in RDI activities or in providing specific support services to accelerate RDI processes.
Talent
Community
The Talent Community layer is made up of a mixed group of people (researchers, managers, entrepreneurs, students, freelancers, consultants and any citizen interested in research and innovation), willing to be part of the Federated Innovation @MIND ecosystem. It is a vibrant community of individuals interested in cultivating their talent and achieving personal and professional development, connecting with the business community, participating in events and acting as advocates of an inclusive innovation culture.
Institutions &
RDI Partners
In addition to Anchor institutions and the Districts’ developers and investors, Federated Innovation @MIND members will have the opportunity to interact with a broad range of Research, Development and Innovation Partners, including universities, research hospitals, private and public research centres and other Innovation Districts and Science Parks, operating in the key thematic areas which are of interest for the Anchors and the members themselves.
Our Mission
The mission of the Federated Innovation @MIND is to “develop a unique operating model beyond open innovation and traditional corporate innovation” leveraging on a special IP agile framework and physical proximity as an essential driver for innovation to be implemented in real estate and regeneration projects.
Our Vision
Federated Innovation @MIND believes that free competition is the driver for innovation. Federated Innovation therefore defines its governance system and carries out all its activities, including R&D programs, in full compliance with antitrust principles, which do not limit, but encourage beneficial cooperation between market players.
Our Ecosystem
Federated Innovation @MIND intends to create an unprecedented ecosystem beyond open innovation and traditional corporate innovation which fosters, through a multi-disciplinary and inter-sectoral approach, scientific, economic and social innovation processes.
